Early Childhood

In a football game, the kicker kicked the ball 30 yards.  In his next kick he kicked the ball 10 yards farther than his first attempt.  How far did he kick the ball the second time?  Use a tape diagram (bar model) and a matching equation to show how you know.

Upper Elementary

In a football game, a touchdown is awarded 6 points, plus one more for a field goal, for a total of 7 points.  If the final score of a football game was Patriots 45 and Giants 35, how many touchdowns could the Giants have scored?  How many could the Patriots have scored?  Explain your thinking.

Middle School

In a televised football game, if the ratio of game time to commercial time is 8:1, how many minutes of commercials are shown during a 60 minute football game?  How long, including both game and commercial time, is the entire football game broadcast?  Use a math model and an equation to show your thinking.
