Early Childhood:

Aunt Millie wants to make three apple pies for Thanksgiving dinner.  If she needs five apples to make one pie, how many apples are needed to make three pies?  Use a math model to show your work.

Upper Elementary:

Twelve guests will attend Thanksgiving dinner.  If each guest eats approximately 8 oz. of turkey, how many pounds of turkey is needed to feed the guests?  Show how you know.

Middle School:

To make pumpkin pie, a recipe calls for an eight inch round pie pan.  Aunt Millie only has a twelve-inch round pie pan (with 12 inches as the diameter).  By how much will she have to increase the ingredients in the pumpkin pie recipe to fill the twelve-inch pie pan?  Use a math model to show your work.
