Coaching & Consulting

Partnering with schools and districts to make math teaching stronger, more joyful, and more effective—one step at a time.

Are you looking for...

  • Thoughtful, side-by-side planning with a trusted expert?

  • A way to help teachers grow without adding pressure?

  • Support that’s flexible, responsive, and grounded in what’s really happening in classrooms?

  • Tools and strategies that build instructional consistency across a school or system?

You’ve come to the right place.

Looney Math provides customized coaching and consulting

We do this virtually or in-person — to help schools and districts build powerful math instruction from the ground up.

Every partnership starts with a conversation: What do you want to grow? What’s already working? Where are the sticking points?

We work with you to design:

  • Sustained coaching cycles for teachers or coaches

  • Implementation planning for new curriculum or frameworks

  • Leadership team retreats

  • Classroom-based learning experiences (observing students, reflecting on practice, and shifting instruction together)

  • School-wide instructional strategy development

“Susan has a commanding knowledge of elementary level mathematics instruction, but what makes her so outstanding is that she combines that knowledge with surpassing skills as a teacher. Faculty practices have been gradually transforming through Susan’s interventions. Administrators across the system report that they see teachers engaging their students in more challenging mathematics exercises, encouraging their students to talk more about their mathematical thinking, and undertaking more writing about their mathematical work.

Teachers tell me how much they love working with Susan. She puts them at their ease; she gets them to take risks in their classrooms and in their conversations about what is and isn’t working in those classrooms. She helps them to understand the math they don’t know, but doesn’t put them on the defensive in the process. She is helping our faculty to realize that their students are capable of more. Nothing could be more important.

On several occasions this year, to paraphrase, I have personally heard teachers say: “I couldn’t believe what she got my kids to talk about/understand/solve! I realized I could ask more of my students.”

In our curriculum review and adoption work, Susan has likewise been an invaluable support. She has helped us to structure the entire process; she has helped us to avoid making mistakes out of ignorance; and, she has pointed us towards the future of mathematics instruction by making us aware of the developments that are now shaping the field.”

🧪 Highlight: Math Labs

Want to build a culture of shared ownership, reflection, and risk-taking in math instruction? Let’s start a Math Lab cycle.

Math Labs are a collaborative, high-trust model where educators:

  • Co-plan lessons

  • Observe real classroom instruction together

  • Analyze student thinking to understand how instructional choices shape learning opportunities

  • Revisit and refine ideas over time

This structure helps shift school culture—away from isolation, and toward instructional learning that’s meaningful, relevant, and brave.
