Four Leaf Clovers

Some people believe that four leaf clovers, rabbit’s feet, or certain numbers are lucky. What’s your lucky number? (If you don’t have one, pick a number between 1-100). Is your lucky number prime or composite? Is your lucky number a multiple of 5? A multiple of 2? Explain how you know.

 

Hot Cocoa

Joey, Jimmy and Madeline each will have a cup of hot cocoa and mini marshmallows after playing in the cold. They have 9 mini marshmallows to share. If they each get the same number of marshmallows, how many do they each get? Show how you know.

Joey loves to have mini marshmallows in his hot cocoa. If he puts 15 marshmallows in his cup and that is 3 times more marshmallows than his sister Jessica put in her cup of hot cocoa. How many marshmallows did Jessica put in her hot cocoa? Write an equation with a variable to match the problem. Solve and show your thinking!

Mrs. Looney wants to make hot cocoa for her class of 24 students. She has the following recipe that makes 4 cups. How much does she need of each ingredient so that she can make enough for her whole class to have one cup?

    • 2 tablespoons sugar

    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa

    • 2  1/2  cups milk

    • 1/4  cup semisweet chocolate chips (1 1/2 oz)

    • 1/2  teaspoon vanilla
