Sue Looney, Ed.D. Founder of Looney Math Consulting

Whether I am working with very young learners or experienced adults, I love helping people  better understand math concepts they struggle with, opening up their eyes to the creativity and joy that is mathematics!”

“Supporting the belief that all students are mathematicians is my passion. A veteran public school teacher and elementary math coach for over twenty years, I have seen first-hand the innate ability of diverse children for mathematics, I have watched them reach the heights of mathematical knowledge through the efforts of great educators who are trained in mathematics education. Being a part of that effort has been an honor and a privilege which I came to Looney Math to continue participating in after retiring.”

“My passion is working with administrators and teachers to think about how to improve mathematics teaching and learning in their schools. I believe in the capacity of all students to learn mathematics at the highest level and I know teachers can develop practices that inspire and engage students. I focus a lot of attention on using equitable teaching practices, investigating students’ algebraic reasoning, taking and watching videos of students at work and developing collaborative models for collegial visits.”

My passion is working with educators to improve and enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics. A core part of my work is to break through any existing barriers pertaining to the learning of mathematics so every student and teacher feels confident in mathematics.”

All of this is in the service of supporting all students as they come to see themselves as members of a community engaged in thinking and doing mathematics together.”

The idea that such a thing as a math person exists or that we need to water down ideas because we believe that a given group just can’t learn a concept diminishes both adult and student potential.
