Tables - December 3, 2012

There are 12 guests coming for dinner. How many tables are needed if guests are seated 6 to a table?

If the tables used are in the shape of a rectangle, draw a diagram of how they might be seated.

The Walsh family is getting ready for a party and asked some friends to help set up. Four families each brought the same number of chairs to a block party. Three more chairs are needed to seat all 27 of the participants. How many chairs did each family bring? Show and explain how you know.

There were 84 guests at a party. Square tables and round tables were used for seating. Each square table seats 8 guests and each round table seats 10 guests. How many square tables and round tables could have been used so that all 84 students had a seat and there were no empty seats? Is there more than one solution? Explain.
