February 2nd is Groundhog’s Day! Tradition says that if it is sunny, the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, will see his shadow and we will have 6 more weeks of winter. If it is cloudy, spring is on its way!

Early Childhood: Ask your classmates to predict if the groundhog will see his shadow today. Make a tally chart to display their responses.

Upper Elementary: Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow 100 out of 116 times.   Write this number as a fraction.   Decompose this fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in at least three ways.   Explain your thinking by writing a math model.

Middle School: Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow100 out of 116 times.   What is the probability that he will see his shadow in 2015? Use a number model or diagram to explain your thinking.
