Early Childhood:

Sort the Legos by color and size.  Which group has the most Legos?  Which group has the least?  Explain how you know.

Upper Elementary:

Count the number of raised “studs” on each Lego to solve this problem:  If a Lego brick with 8 “studs” is the whole, what 2 Legos make up its parts?  Use other Legos to create more part/whole relationships.  Draw a math model to explain your thinking.

Middle School:

Simon receives a new Lego set each birthday and Christmas, starting at the age of 5.  If each Lego set he receives has an average of 74 pieces, approximately how many individual Lego pieces does Simon have by the time he is 14?  Draw a math model to explain your thinking.
